At the recent vector control microplanning workshop in Copperbelt Province last month, district malaria elimination officers review the road networks, geography, and population estimates per health facility catchment to determine which communities should receive indoor residual spray or insecticide-treated nets, and the requisite amounts of each.

Zambia has experienced low reporting rates of AEFI Zambia has experienced low reporting rates of AEFIs during the roll out COVID-19 vaccines. To help improve this situation, Akros Research, through the Saving Lives and Livelihoods program (an initiative of the @AfricaCDC in partnership with the @MastercardFoundation) supported the EPI unit to conduct safety surveillance training sessions for Pharmacists and Surveillance officers from three provinces in Zambia: Muchinga (pictured above), Northern, and Luapula. 140 provincial and district staff were trained as trainers. After this training, Akros will provide resources to cascade their knowledge to the relevant staff members at the facility level to help improve AEFI reporting. Over time, EPI and Akros are monitoring the situation to assess improvements.
Ensuring Djibouti’s equitable access to safe and Ensuring Djibouti’s equitable access to safe and efficacious vaccines requires global action and financial support. In December 2022, Akros Research supported the Djibouti MOH to set up a new safety surveillance system. This support was provided under the safety surveillance component of the Saving Lives and Livelihoods program, an initiative of @AfricaCDC in partnership with @MastercardFoundation. The support includes capacity building of staff from various regions and developing and producing AEFI data guidelines and monitoring tools. The Djibouti MOH welcomes the new reporting channel.
@AfricaCDC and @MastercardFoundation's Saving Live @AfricaCDC and @MastercardFoundation's Saving Lives and Livelihoods program has begun support for safety surveillance strengthening in Somalia! Akros is working with the Somalia MOH to scale up adverse event reporting for COVID-19 vaccines. Here the assessment team meets with the staff at Hegan Health Facility in South West State.
